Application: Optimal antibody pair and antigen standard for assaying Rat FGF-2/FGF basic/HBGH-2. To be used in conjunction with the AimPlex Mouse/Rat Basic Kit (PN: P200201) and a diluent kit. Refer to the AimPlex Multiplex Immunoassay User Manual and kit inserts for the assay procedure.

Storage:  2-8 C in the dark.

Important: Sodium azide forms explosive compounds with heavy metals. These products contain <0.05% (w/w) azide which with repeated contact with lead and copper commonly found in plumbing drains may result in the buildup of shock sensitive compounds. Dispose in accordance with regulations from your institute.

Description:

Basic fibroblast growth factor, also known as bFGF, FGF-2 or FGF-β, is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family. FGF-2 has been shown in preliminary animal studies to protect the heart from injury associated with a heart attack, reducing tissue death and promoting improved function after reperfusion. Recent evidence has shown that low levels of FGF2 play a key role in the incidence of excessive anxiety. Additionally, FGF-2 is a critical component of human embryonic stem cell culture medium; the growth factor is necessary for the cells to remain in an undifferentiated state, although the mechanisms by which it does this are poorly defined. It has been demonstrated to induce gremlin expression which in turn is known to inhibit the induction of differentiation by bone morphogenetic proteins. Diseases associated with FGF2 include chronic myocardial ischemia and intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia.
